Tax Reduction

On May 22, 1890, an act passed in March by the Kentucky General Assembly that reduced the rate of taxation became law over the veto of Governor Simon Bolivar Buckner. Later, when the Commonwealth was faced with an empty treasury, Governor Buckner personally lent the state enough money to keep it solvent until tax revenue came into the treasury.
