In an act approved March 15, 1894, married women in Kentucky obtained the right to hold real and personal property in their own name after they were married. They could acquire, purchase, and sell property as if they were unmarried, as well as make contracts and sue or be sued. Until this act, a woman’s property became exclusively the property of her husband when she married; she could not acquire any property in her own name, and any wages she earned belonged to her husband.
