The Kentucky General Assembly passed an act, approved March 29, 1902, creating the Kentucky State Fair. The purpose of the fair was “to provide for the improvement and development of the live stock, agricultural and kindred interests.” The act was amended two years later, and in 1907 Louisville was chosen as the permanent site for the fair. In 1946, the legislature authorized the sale of bonds to fund construction of the Kentucky Fair and Exposition Center.
