An act of the Kentucky General Assembly, approved February 7, 1912, provided “for the erection and completion of a Governor’s Mansion and other necessary buildings connected therewith.” The act noted that the present governor’s residence was “notoriously inadequate to furnish a proper home for the Governor” and “is now old and dilapidated and much out of repair.” Cost of the new mansion was not to exceed $75,000 for construction and furnishings.
