The General Assembly passed an act February 22, 1865, to establish an agricultural college in Kentucky. The act stated: “The curators of Kentucky University propose to locate their university in Fayette county, in or near the city of Lexington, to be called the Agricultural and Mechanical College of Kentucky.” This land-grant institution evolved into the present-day University of Kentucky.
