Salaries for Legislative Leadership

An "Act to fix the pay of the President of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives" was approved March 17, 1892. It fixed the Speaker's salary at five dollars per diem “in addition to his regular per diem as a member, making ten dollars per diem in all,” and it provided “that the pay of the President of the Senate be . . . fixed at ten dollars per diem.”
