An act approved March 14, 1946, provided: “Whereas, the State Historical Society is housed and maintained in one of the Old State Capitol buildings; and whereas, a large number of people visit the State Historical exhibits in said building; and whereas, the Commonwealth of Kentucky owns and maintains real estate adjacent to the Old State Capitol buildings; and whereas, there are beautiful shade trees upon said grounds, and there is adequate space upon said grounds not now utilized for other purposes; now, therefore be it enacted . . . that all of the Old State Capitol grounds . . . shall be and hereby are dedicated as a public park.”
