805 KAR 4:160.Airblast.

Section 1.

(1)

Maximum allowable airblast at any dwelling, public building, school, church, commercial or institutional building shall not exceed 129 decibels when measured by an instrument having a flat frequency response (+/- 3 decibels) over a range of at least 6 to 200 hertz. If the airblast is measured with an instrument having a flat frequency response (+/- 3 decibels) over a range of at least 2 to 200 hertz, the corresponding limit is 133 decibels.

If the department believes that the airblast from a blasting operation is exceeding or threatening to exceed the limits in subsection (1), it may require that the blaster monitor the air airblast for a specified period.

(3)

The blaster shall take precautions, including the adequate confinement of all explosive materials, to ensure that the airblast limits in subsection (1) of this section are met.

(4)

The department may require lower limits than those specified in subsection 1 in the vicinity of buildings with increased susceptibility to damage from airblast, such as those with large plate glass windows, or in areas where excessive airblast could be deemed unacceptable, such as near hospitals or schools.
