The committee acknowledged receipt of the Auditor of Public Accounts' response granting its request for audits of certain contracts. The Auditor will conduct audits of contracts between the Department of Mental Health and Mental Retardation and those medical staffing companies providing nurses and similar support services to the Department's hospitals and facilities, and contracts pertaining to the Commonwealth Assessment Testing System and No Child Left Behind. Results from the audits are expected by the end of December 2008.
Per the request of Senator Carroll, John Hicks of the Office of State Budget Director discussed whether personal service contracts would be used to fill positions vacated by retiring state government employees.
