AN ACT relating to a school voucher program.
Create new section of KRS Chapter 157 to establish a voucher program effective in the 2000-01 school year to provide that any student in grade kindergarten through twelfth grade whose family income is less than $42,000 per year may receive a voucher to attend any approved private school; no more than 65% of the private school's enrollment may consist of student receiving vouchers; students enrolled in the primary program through eighth grade may be awarded vouchers of $3,000, and students in the ninth through twelfth grade may be awarded vouchers of $3,500; establish standards for private school to meet in order to participate; require the Office of Education Accountability to perform an annual financial and performance evaluation of the program and submit copies to the Legislative Research Commission; require the Department of Education to establish a public information campaign to inform parents of all eligible pupils about the availability of vouchers.
