AN ACT relating to countywide and area code wide local telephone service.
     Amend KRS 278.545 to require the Public Service Commission by August 1, 2001, to disallow from any rate schedule long-distance toll charges for calls between two or more telephone companies within the same county; require telephone companies that operate within the same area code to provide extended area service plans for local area code wide calling and require rate schedules filed prior to August 1, 2001, to be amended by July 1, 2002; permit the commission to grant an extension or modify the requirements of subsection (3) and subsection (4) if the telephone company shows evidence of geographic, economic, or technological unfeasibility; permit the commission to require companies to enter into negotiations to provide for county wide or area code wide calling if the commission deems the rates for their extended area plans to be excessive or unreasonable.
