AN ACT relating to driver licensing.
Amend KRS 186.412 to require all persons or renewing a driver's license to undergo a mandatory eye examination conducted by the circuit clerk; require the clerk to notify the Transportation Cabinet of all persons to whom a license is issued that failed the eye examination; require the cabinet to notify a person who failed the eye exam by first class mail that the person has 15 days to either return to the circuit clerk's office for a second exam or to provide the cabinet with medical evidence from a physician, osteopath, or optometrist that the person's vision complies with eye standards established by the state police; require the cabinet to suspend the license of any person who fails to retake the exam or provide medical evidence to the cabinet within 15 days; delete the provision authorizing the circuit clerk to issue a temporary driver's license; amend KRS 186.480 to delete the requirement for the state police to conduct an eye examination when testing a person for a driver's license; require all vision testing machines currently used by the state police to conduct eye examinations to be transferred to the Transportation Cabinet for redistribution to circuit clerks across the state.
