HB 62/FN (BR 22) - S. Nunn, B. Colter, R. Crimm, C. Geveden, D. Horlander

     AN ACT relating to tuition assistance.
     Create a new section of KRS Chapter 164 to require public postsecondary institutions to waive tuition and mandatory student fees for a Kentucky foster or adopted child who is a full-time student; require that an eligible student meet all entrance requirements for the postsecondary institution and maintain academic eligibility while enrolled at the postsecondary institution; and prohibit guaranteed acceptance of or entrance of a student into any postsecondary institution for a foster or adopted child.

HB 62 - AMENDMENTS


     HCS/FN - Retain original provisions; clarify eligibility requirements; clarify that waiver is only to the extent that tuition is not covered by other state or federal student aid programs.
     HCA (1, S. Nunn) - Define eligible student as one who is over age 18 and the student's family receives state-funded adoption assistance under KRS 199.555; is currently placed in foster care by the Cabinet for Families and Children or the Department of Juvenile Justice; is in an independent living program; was in the custody of the Cabinet for Families and Children or the Department of Juvenile Justice prior to being adopted by a family that resides in Kentucky; or was in the custody of the Cabinet for Families and Children or the Department of Juvenile Justice on his or her eighteenth birthday.
