SB 108 (BR 889) - V. McGaha
AN ACT relating to the school term.
Amend KRS 158.070 to require that school districts adopt a school calendar designating opening and closing dates and instructional days and permitting the scheduling of school breaks outside of the minimum school term; and to require that schools allow teacher delegates to attend statewide professional meetings and hire substitute teachers if schools are scheduled to operate on meeting days.
SB 108 - AMENDMENTS
SFA (1, W. Blevins) - Amend KRS 158.6453 to provide that the state assessment shall be administered between the 160th and the 165th instructional day; provide that if the 160th instructional day falls during the week immediately following spring break, the assessment may be given during the following week and shall be completed no later than 10 instructional days following spring break; require that assessment results be returned to the schools no later than October 1 rather than September 15 of each year.
SFA (2, V. McGaha) - Permit the administrator of a school that participates in the Federal School Breakfast Program to authorize up to 15 minutes of the 6 hour instructional day for children to eat breakfast who would otherwise not be able to do so because of school bus schedules.
HCS - Retain original provisions except delete the provision permitting an administrator of a school to authorize up to fifteen minutes of the instructional day to provide children the opportunity to eat breakfast who are late because of school bus schedules.
HFA (1/FN/P, B. Colter) - Permit the administrator of a school that participates in the Federal School Breakfast Program to authorize up to 15 minutes of the six hour instructional day if necessary to provide the opportunity for children to eat breakfast who would otherwise not be able to do so because of bus schedules.
HFA (2, F. Rasche) - Amend KRS 158.070 to require school districts to arrange bus schedules so that breakfast is provided prior to the instructional day; and in the event of an unforeseen bus delay, permit a school administrator to authorize up to fifteen minutes of the instructional day to provide children the opportunity to eat breakfast, not more than eight times during the school year within a school building.
