AN ACT proposing an amendment to Section 112 of the Constitution of Kentucky, relating to family courts.
Propose an amendment to Section 112 of the Constitution of Kentucky to provide for the establishment of family courts; allow the Supreme Court to designate one or more divisions of Circuit Court within a circuit as a family court division, which shall retain the jurisdiction of the Circuit Court and have additional jurisdiction as provided by the General Assembly; and enable the Chief Justice, upon a determination of need by the Supreme Court, to assign a District Judge having the qualifications of a Circuit Judge to serve in family court; provide for submission to voters.
SB 58 - AMENDMENTS
SCS - Retain original provisions of the bill; add transitional language so that District Judges elected for the term beginning on the first Monday in January of 2003, who possess the qualifications of a Circuit Judge and who are assigned by the Chief Justice to serve as family court judges on or before the commencement of the term, shall on that date become Circuit Judges.
