SB 157 (BR 1664) - D. Mongiardo, T. Buford

     AN ACT relating to children's health.
     Create a new section of KRS Chapter 158 to prohibit or limit the sale of certain food products at school during a school day to require schools to provide at least six grams of dietary fiber averaged over a period of one week; create a new section of KRS Chapter 160 to require the appointment of a school district food service director with certain qualifications; specify continuing education requirements of cafeteria managers and for food service directors to maintain their credentials; amend KRS 156.160 to require a 30 minute structured physical activity for preschool through intermediate beginning in 2003-2004, the middle school in 2004-2005, and in the high school in 2005-2006; amend KRS 156.990 to establish penalties for any public school that does not comply with the prohibitions relating to the sale of competitive food and beverages; require a legislative task force to study the obesity epidemic and the health consequences of obesity in Kentucky's youth, which shall make recommendations to the Legislative Research Commission by August 31, 2003.
