HB 71 (BR 202) - S. Lee

     AN ACT relating to student physical activity and health and declaring an emergency.
     Amend KRS 156.160 to require the Kentucky Board of Education to promulgate administrative regulations for the 2005-06 school year to include in the minimum requirements for high school graduation for all students the completion of the physical activity requirements and, for students entering the ninth grade, two credits of health and nutrition instruction; provide all students in kindergarten through grade twelve 45 minutes of daily or 225 minutes of weekly physical activity; specify alternative plans and activities for the integration of physical activity in the school day; encourage schools to develop physical education plans in consultation with a certified physical education specialist; clarify that the required physical activity shall be considered part of the instructional day; amend KRS 160.345 to require, beginning with the 2005-06 school year, a school council to adopt a plan to integrate daily physical activity into the school day; require a school council's student assignment policy to include for all students 45 minutes of daily or 225 minutes of weekly physical activity and for students in kindergarten through grade eight 45 minutes per week or 180 minutes per month of health and nutrition instruction; amend KRS 158.153 and 158.6455 to conform; declare an EMERGENCY.
