     AN ACT relating to mathematics and declaring an emergency.
     Create a new section of KRS Chapter 158 to establish the mathematics diagnostic and intervention fund; establish the Center for Mathematics; provide criteria for grants, beginning in 2006-2007, to local schools for assessment, interventions services, and improved instructional practices for teachers of primary students; create a new section of KRS Chapter 158 to establish the Mathematics Diagnostic and Intervention Grant Steering Committee; identify the purposes and membership of the steering committee; create a new section of KRS Chapter 164 to require the Council on Postsecondary Education to select a public university to administer the Center for Mathematics; define responsibilities for the center; set timeline for the first meeting of the steering committee; EMERGENCY.

SB 64 - AMENDMENTS


     SCA (1, G. Neal) - Require the Department of Education, by November 1, 2007, to conduct a statewide needs assessment of the resources needed in each school to help children reach mathematics proficiency; report to the Interim Joint Committee on Education.
