AN ACT relating to health care disparities.
Create a new section of KRS Chapter 194A to require the Cabinet for Health and Family Services to assess the healthcare disparities among racial and ethnic groups in Kentucky and design a multilevel strategy with specific interventions for eliminating these disparities and improving the quality of life for these groups, including but not limited to African Americans and Hispanics; require the assessment to be submitted to the Governor, Legislative Research Commission, and Interim Joint Committee on Health and Welfare no later than December, 2006; require the cabinet to submit the strategy design to the Governor, Legislative Research Commission, and Interim Joint Committee on Health and Welfare no later than September, 2007; require a progress report every two years thereafter.
HB 213 - AMENDMENTS
HCS - Retain original provisions, except define "health"; require the Cabinet for Health and Family Services to assess health disparities and design strategies to reduce these in addition to the assessment and strategies to reduce health care disparities; require the assessment of disparities to include low birth weight, suicide, accidents, immunizations, and asthma; require the assessment and strategies to reduce disparities to include Latinos rather than Hispanics.
