HB 276/FN (BR 1294) - G. Lindsay, J. Vincent, R. Wilkey

     AN ACT relating to the Court of Justice.
     Amend KRS 26A.030, relating to judicial successors, to remove gender-specific language.

HB 276 - AMENDMENTS


     HCS (1/FN) - Delete original provisions of bill; insert provisions creating new circuit judgeships in the 4th, 9th, 14th, 39th, 49th, 54th, and 57th judicial circuits; create a new district judgeship in the 25th judicial district; create a new section of KRS Chapter 23A to specify the salary for a judge who has previously retired from any Commonwealth of Kentucky-operated retirement system; make judgeships created by the bill effective January 1, 2007, with elections for the offices being placed on the November 2006 ballot.

     HCS (2/FN) - Retain original provisions; delete new circuit judge for Woodford County; add a new district court judge for Warren County; provide that retired judges who return to judicial service shall be compensated in an amount, including retirement benefits, not to exceed the salary fixed for the judicial office held; provide that the Chief Justice may assign a family court or senior status judge to hear family court cases in a different circuit.

     HFA (1, J. Fischer) - Amend to exempt retired judges who are retired for 48 consecutive months or more from the requirement that retired judges who return to judicial service be compensated in an amount not to exceed the salary fixed for the judicial office held.
