HB 532 (BR 1588) - M. Cherry

     AN ACT relating to athletic activities.
     Amend KRS 229.011, relating to definitions for the boxing and wrestling statutes, to include kickboxing mixed martial arts in the definitions of "professional" and "professional match"; amend KRS 229.081 to include the second as one of the persons participating in a professional match who must be licensed by and meet the eligibility requirements of the Kentucky Boxing and Wrestling Authority (KBWA); amend KRS 229.111 to add contestants in kickboxing and mixed martial arts among those who must get prematch physicals; delete wrestlers from the prefight physicals; amend KRS 229.171 to include kickboxing and mixed martial arts among the sports under the authority of the KBWA; create a new section of KRS Chapter 229 to create the Kentucky Boxing and Wrestling Medical Advisory Panel to advise the KBWA regarding health and safety issues and the fitness of individuals; establish the membership, qualifications for membership, and per diem; amend KRS 229.991 to increase from $500 to $1,000 the maximum amount of a fine for certain violations; increase from $100 to $500 the maximum fine for any violation of any provision for which no specific penalty is provided; amend KRS 229.031, 229.051, 229.061, 229.071, 229.101, 229.121, 229.131, 229.141, 229.151, 229.180, and 229.200 to apply to kickboxing and mixed martial arts.

     SFA (1, T. Shaughnessy) - Amend KRS 156.070 to require that any proposal designed to control a student's eligibility to participate in high school interscholastic athletics based on geographic boundaries designed for this purpose or designated feeder schools shall be approved by the General Assembly before being implemented.
