HB 664/AA (BR 83) - S. Brinkman
AN ACT relating to the Kentucky Teachers' Retirement System.
Create a new section of KRS Chapter 161 to recognize that there are teachers and principals who are constantly in stressful and harmful situations as they work with certain exceptional students who exhibit violent or disruptive behavior as a condition of their disability; provide that these educators shall qualify for hazardous duty retirement status by completing 25 years of Kentucky service with a minimum of 20 years in a hazardous duty position; require a local school district superintendent to certify to the Kentucky Teachers' Retirement System the names of all employees working or who have previously worked in a hazardous duty position who have not retired; amend KRS 161.220 to provide that the final average salary for members with hazardous duty retirement status be calculated by using the three highest annual salaries; define "hazardous duty position" as a position for a teacher or principal who works with exceptional children who exhibit violent or disruptive behavior as a condition of their disability; define "hazardous duty retirement status" to mean service credit required for retirement for members approved as being in a hazardous duty position; amend KRS 161.600 to conform.
