AN ACT relating to anesthesiologist assistants.
Amend KRS 311.844 to include current certification with the National Commission for Certification of Anesthesiologist Assistants before certification shall be renewed; amend KRS 311.846 to require the examination of the National Commission for Certification of Anesthesiologist Assistants for certification as an anesthesiologist assistant to be approved by the board; require educational and training programs approved by the board to include anesthesiologist assistant programs; amend KRS 311.862 to require anesthesiology assistants to graduate from an approved program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs; delete requirement that anesthesiologist assistants graduate from an approved four year physician assistant program and from another two year program that consists of training in anesthesiology; and require anesthesiology assistants to successfully complete the Certifying Examination for Anesthesiologist Assistants administered by the National Commission for Certification of Anesthesiologist Assistants; clarify that a physician assistant practicing as an anesthesiologist assistant shall limit his or her practice to anesthesiology.
SB 175 - AMENDMENTS
SCS - Delete original provisions; require the Legislative Research Commission to study the certification and scope of practice requirements of anesthesiologist assistants in Kentucky to those requirements in all states that statutorily license or certify anesthesiologist assistants; require the results of the study to be transmitted to the appropriate committees by December 15, 2006.
