SB 83 (BR 1026) - B. Guthrie

     AN ACT relating to speed limits.
     Amend KRS 189.390 to establish a maximum speed limit of 65 miles per hour for interstate highways; 55 miles per hour on all other state highways and 35 miles per hour on roads in a business or residential district; prohibit the secretary of transportation from increasing any speed limit in excess of 65 miles per hour, except upon the basis of an engineering and traffic investigation, the secretary may increase the speed limit to 70 miles per hour on an interstate highway; amend KRS 189.340 to conform.

     SFA (1, B. Guthrie) - Allow the Secretary of Transportation to increase the speed limit to 70 miles per hour on parkways with four or more lanes; make technical amendment.

     HCS - Retain original provisions of SB 83; add language specifying highways on which the Transportation Cabinet may increase the speed limit to seventy (70) miles per hour.
