AN ACT relating to the promotion of physical activity in schools.
Create a new section of KRS 160 to require the Kentucky Board of Education to promulgate an administrative regulation to implement a physical activity requirement; set forth the Kentucky Board of Education's and the Department of Education's responsibilities for the implementation of the physical activity requirements; require the department to develop a reporting mechanism for schools to report to the department on physical activities; require the department to report no later than November 1 of each year to the Interim Joint Committee on Education and the Interim Joint Committee on Health and Welfare; amend KRS 160.345 to require all public preschool through eighth grade programs to implement, no later than the 2008-2009 school year, 30 minutes per day or 150 minutes per week of structured moderate-to-vigorous physical activity in a minimum of ten-minute intervals incorporated into the school day; permit the physical activity to include a combination of classroom-based physical activity, structured recess, and other structured physical activities.
