     AN ACT relating to radioactive waste.
     Create sections of KRS 211 to enforce the Central Midwest Interstate Low-Level Radioactive Waste Compact; control the commerce of low-level radioactive waste into or out of Kentucky; require the Cabinet for Health Services to adopt administrative regulations to administer and enforce the Act; provide penalties; allow for donations; short title.

HB 171 - AMENDMENTS


     HCS/LM - Retain original provisions; revise the definition of "naturally occurring radioactive waste" to exclude this waste from low-level radioactive waste; prohibit importing naturally occurring radioactive waste without the approval of the compact commission.
     SCS/LM - Retain original provisions; delete declaring that NORM is not low-level radioactive waste; declare that the state shall have exclusive regulatory authority over NORM except that commerce restrictions shall not be inconsistent with the compact commission; declare that certain low-level radioactive waste shall be exempt from the Act and regulation under KRS 211.859.
