     AN ACT relating to highway signage.
     Create a new section of KRS Chapter 177 to define limited supplemental guide sign, post-interchange guide sign, historical site, and tourist area or attraction; require the commissioner of the Department of Highways to promulgate administrative regulations concerning applications for a limited supplemental guide sign; require the criteria to be based upon average annual attendance and distance from a highway; require the commissioner of the Department of Highways to approve or reject an application within 90 days of its receipt; specify the required contents of an application for a limited supplemental guide sign; require a nonrefundable application fee of $200 and upon approval of an application a fee of $100 per year; require the commissioner of the Department of Highways to apply to the Federal Highway Administration for permission to experiment with a new usage of post-supplementary guide signs by no later than February 1, 1999; upon approval for a request to experiment with post-interchange guide signs, allow signs to be erected at a distance not to exceed 35 miles from an interstate exit to a tourist area or attraction; require an applicant upon approval for a post-interchange guide sign to pay a fee of $100 per year.
