HB 178/FN (BR 933) - J. Draud

     AN ACT relating to early mathematics placement testing.
     Create new sections of KRS Chapter 158 to establish the Kentucky Early Mathematics Testing Program, located at a public university, to provide information to high school sophomores and juniors regarding their level of mathematics knowledge in relation to college standards in order to encourage students to take additional high school mathematics courses and reduce the number of students needing mathematics remediation in college.

     HCS/FN - Create new sections of KRS Chapter 158 to establish the Kentucky Early Mathematics Testing Program as a voluntary program to inform high school students in private and public schools of their level of knowledge relative to postsecondary standards in order to encourage additional study and reduce remediation; provide testing program as a computer website-based program to be developed and conducted by a public university that shall be selected by the Council on Postsecondary Education by September 1, 2000; require testing program to be available to all Kentuckians for self-evaluation; require computer website testing program to develop and adopt appropriate tests, permit testing at school or home, transmit electronically test scores and diagnostic information to participating school; provide specified information to student's choice of colleges, encourage postsecondary education institution to communicate encouragement for additional study or congratulation on test score; and require the public university to report annually on the effects of the program.
