AN ACT relating to dyslexia, and making an appropriation therefor.
Create a new section of KRS 164 to provide for the establishment of a state resource center for dyslexia to improve teachers' and parents' understanding of dyslexia, assessment and identification of students with dyslexia, and appropriate intervention strategies; provide that the Council on Postsecondary Education select a public or not-for-profit postsecondary education institution in partnership with an elementary or secondary school to house the center; describe the purposes of the center and how funds will be granted; require the grant recipient to report progress to the council; and require the council to make recommendations for continuing appropriations to the Interim Joint Committee on Education; and make an appropriation of $250,000 in 2000-2001 and $300,000 in 2001-2002.
