HB 267/LM (BR 1145) - J. Haydon, R. Crimm, M. Weaver
AN ACT relating to seat belts.
Amend KRS 189.125, regarding the use of seat belts, to remove the provision that an officer may not stop a motorist for violating the seat belt law unless the officer had some other reason the stop the vehicle.
HB 267 - AMENDMENTS
HFA (1, J. Reinhardt) - Delete Section 1 of the bill in its entirety to maintain seat belt violations as a secondary offense.
HFA (2, J. Reinhardt) - Limit Kentucky's seat belt law to the driver and front seat passengers rather than all passengers in the vehicle as is current law.
HFA (3, K. Upchurch) - Amend to add a new section 2 to require law enforcement officers to impound the operator's license of drivers who cannot produce proof of insurance, allow a person whose license was impounded under subsection (1) to have the license returned when he or she present proof of insurance to the circuit clerk, and require officers to have another reason to stop the vehicle besides a violation of this section.
