HB 550 (BR 1101) - F. Nesler

     AN ACT relating to the licensing of drivers.
     Amend KRS 186.450, relating to the issuance of an instruction permit to operate a motor vehicle, to allow a person 15 1/2 years old to apply for an instruction permit if the person is enrolled in an approved driver's education course; define "approved driver's education course" to mean a course administered by a school district or a driver training school licensed under KRS Chapter 332, if in addition to classroom instruction, the course includes at least 50 hours on-the-road certified driving experience and 10 of the 50 hours must be nighttime driving experience; provide that a person who withdraws from the driver's education course shall have the instruction permit revoked and the person becomes ineligible to re-apply for an instruction permit until the person is at least 17 years of age; amend KRS 186.990, penalties, to conform.
