     AN ACT relating to training for caregivers of long-term care.
     Create a new section of KRS Chapter 216B to require, as a condition of licensure, that long-term care facilities provide specialized dementia-care training for employees; require each facility employee to receive basic written and verbal information about interacting with persons with Alzheimer's disease or a related disorder at time of initial employment or within 1 month after effective date of Act; require employees with direct contact with residents with Alzheimer's or a related disorder to have 1 hour of initial training that includes an overview of dementia and basic skills in communicating with a person with dementia; require employees who provide direct care to complete 8 hours of initial specialized training and 4 hours of annual continuing training; require training to be approved by the Alzheimer's Disease and Related Disorders Advisory Council; require the Office of Alzheimer's Disease and Related Disorders to maintain a list of approved Alzheimer's and dementia training resources; provide that the 9 hours of total training provided to certified nursing assistants, nurses, or other health professionals to be included as part of the total number of hours required for annual training for those professionals; require that employee be given a certificate of completion for the training; and require the facilities to designate a person who will be responsible for the staff training programs.
