AN ACT relating to special license plates.
Create a new section of KRS Chapter 186 to create a special Louisville Zoo license plate; establish costs for initial purchase and renewal fees; establish how proceeds from the sale of the plate are to be used to support the Louisville Zoo.
HB 239 - AMENDMENTS
HCS - Delete provisions of existing bill and insert in lieu thereof the provision that the first 900 applicants for a Louisville Zoo special license plate must pay a $50 state fee for the plate to offset computer programming costs before the plate is required to be printed; require that until the plate is printed, the Transportation Cabinet must send county clerks a monthly status report on the number of persons that have applied for the Louisville Zoo license plate; provide that if 900 requests with the appropriate state fee are not achieved within one year, the cabinet is to refund the fee to applicants and the provisions of the bill are automatically repealed; provide that if a Louisville Zoo license plate achieves the 900 requests and is actually printed, the cost for the plate is the same $15 fee as charged for a regular license plate; provide that persons may make an additional voluntary $12 contribution that a county clerk will send quarterly to the Friends of the Zoo; require the Friends of the Zoo to use money generated from the license plate to be used for public programs not limited to Friends of the Zoo or Louisville Zoo members to promote zoological, botanical, and cultural interests, activities, and education that are an integral part of the mission of all zoos.
