     AN ACT relating to a school voucher program.
     Create a new section of KRS Chapter 157 to provide that, effective with the 1998-99 school year, any pupil in grades kindergarten to twelfth grade whose total family income is less than $42,000 per year may receive a voucher to attend any approved private school; no more than 65% of a private school's enrollment may consist of pupils; vouchers may be up to $3000 for students in the primary program through eighth grade and up to $3500 for pupils enrolled in the ninth through twelfth grades; establish standards for the private school to meet in order to participate in the program; require the Office of Education Accountability to perform an annual financial and performance evaluation of the program and submit copies of the audit to the Legislative Research Commission; require the Department of Education to establish a public information campaign to inform parents of all eligible pupils about the voucher program's availability.
