HB 724 (BR 2329) - G. Lindsay

     AN ACT relating to a school to careers system and declaring an emergency.
     Create new sections of KRS Chapter 158 to establish a School to Careers system as the overall system for career related programs in the public school such as School-to-Work; Tech Prep; and High Schools That Work; establish the goals for the School to Careers program including to increase the math, science, communications, social studies, and technical skills of all students, the awareness of job and career availability in the future workforce and the skills required, the postsecondary education entry and completion rates and to decrease high school dropout rates and poor attendance; establish a state grant program to provide matching funds to school districts or consortia of school districts to assist in the development and implementation of comprehensive School to Careers; require the Kentucky Board of Education to promulgate regulations for the grant program and distribution of funds; establish a statewide advisory group relating to the School to Careers system; amend KRS 151B.250 and KRS 151B. 255 to require the School to Work Office to coordinate its activities with the Kentucky Department of Education; EMERGENCY.

HB 724 - AMENDMENTS


     HFA (1, G. Lindsay) - Add business and labor to membership on the School to Careers Partnership Council.
     SFA (1, N. Kafoglis) - Provide that the Cabinet for Workforce Development manage the School to Careers System instead of the Kentucky Department of Education; and require the Cabinet for Workforce Development to promulgate regulations relating to the grant program.
