     AN ACT relating to insurance.
     Create a new section of Subtitle 17A of KRS Chapter 304 to require health benefit plans to provide coverage for payment of anesthesia and hospital or facility charges for services performed in a hospital in connection with dental procedures for children below the age of 9 years, persons with serious mental or physical conditions, and persons with behavioral problems.

HB 39 - AMENDMENTS


     HFA (1, B. DeWeese) - Provide that this section applies to health benefit plans that provide coverage for general anesthesia and hospitalization services to a covered person.

     HFA (2, B. DeWeese) - Require certification of procedure by a licensed physician.

     HFA (3, B. DeWeese) - Require procedure to be certified by dentist or admitting physician.

     HFA (4, B. DeWeese) - Provide that this section does not require coverage for routine dental care, including diagnosis or treatment of disease or other dental conditions and procedures not covered in this section.

     SFA (1, L. Casebier) - Direct the Department of Insurance to study mandated health benefits; direct the Program Review and Investigations Committee to study the impact of mandated health benefits and report to the General Assembly no later than December 1, 2002.
