AN ACT relating to vital statistics.
Amend KRS 213.036 to require the local registrar to examine death certificates filed in his office and to issue a certified copy of a death certificate upon payment of a fee and pursuant to procedures established by the Cabinet for Health Services; provide that a certified copy of a death certificate issued by the local registrar shall have the same force and effect as a certified copy issued by the state registrar; amend KRS 213.076 to permit a death certificate to be filed with the local registrar; require the local registrar to maintain a copy of a certificate of death for each death occurring in the county or district for the office of the local registrar; amend KRS 213.136 to authorize the local registrar to issue a certified copy of a death certificate; amend KRS 213.141 to provide that the fee for a certified copy of a death certificate from a local registrar shall be the same as the fee charged by the state registrar, and authorize the local registrar to keep collected fees to defray the cost of administering the system of vital statistics within his office; and create a new section of KRS Chapter 213 to require the state registrar to provide the local registrar with a delayed, amended, or changed death certificate that is delayed, amended, or changed as a result of direct filing with the state registrar or action taken by the state registrar; require the state registrar to assist the local registrar to maintain a system of accurate records for all deaths occurring in the county or district for the office of the local registrar.
