HB 351/FN (BR 1626) - T. Riner

     AN ACT relating to breast-feeding.
     Create new section of KRS Chapter 211 to permit mothers to breast-feed in public or private locations; permit businesses or agencies to use the designation "mother-friendly" for having a policy supporting breast-feeding; require state agencies administering maternal or child health services to provide breast-feeding information to participants; require the Department for Public Health to provide information and assistance on receiving a "baby-friendly" designation; permit the Department for Public Health to include a program of lactation support services as part of the Women, Infants, and Children Nutrition Program; require the Department of Public Health to coordinate the operation of the Women, Infants, and Children program with the Department for Medicaid Services in order to exchange information.

HB 351 - AMENDMENTS


     HCS/FN - Retain original provisions; permit schools to establish a location within the building where a mother may breast-feed her baby; extend reporting period to 2003-2004.

     SFA (1, T. Buford) - Make findings and declarations relative to midwifery; require the Cabinet for Health Services to issue a permit to practice lay midwifery to a lay midwife who applies for a permit and furnishes proof of completion of the educational and credentialing standards of the North American Registry of Midwives and who has received the certified professional midwife credential issued by the North American Registry of Midwives.
