Summary of Original Version | Amend KRS 72.450 to allow a coroner in any county who is in possession of an unclaimed body to elect to cremate certain unclaimed bodies, in lieu of burial, provided no inquest has been held or is intended to be held or there is no reason to believe the body will be needed as evidence in any criminal matter. |

Summary | Amend KRS 72.450 to allow for cremation of an unclaimed body under certain circumstances, in lieu of burial, provided that, after cremation, the coroner offers the remains to family or friends of the decedent, if any are discovered or, inter the remains at the expense of the fiscal court, consolidated local government or urban-county government; interment shall include placement of a permanent marker with certain information, if known; "interred" or "interment" means burial, entombment, or inurnment in a cemetery, sepulture, mausoleum, crypt or columbarium in a proper and dignified manner; no cremation shall occur when, upon reasonable inquiry, the coroner believes it may be inconsistent with the personal wishes, cultural or religious beliefs of the decedent. |
