Summary of Original Version Amend KRS 525.125 to make any person who knowingly owns, possesses, keeps, breeds, trains, sells, or otherwise transfers a dog for the purpose of that dog or its offspring being used to fight for pleasure or profit guilty of cruelty to animals in the first degree, a Class D felony; provide that activities of animals engaged in guarding livestock shall not constitute cruelty to animals in the first degree.

Summary Amend KRS 525.125 to define "dog," "dog fight," and "dog fighting"; provide that a dog owner, an owner of property on which a dog fight is conducted, and anyone who participates in the organization of a dog fight for pleasure or profit as well as anyone who knowingly owns, possesses, keeps, trains, sells, or otherwise transfers a dog for the purpose of dog fighting is guilty of cruelty to animals in the first degree, a Class D felony; clarify that activities of dogs participating in sanctioned American Kennel Club, United Kennel Club, National Kennel Club, or other bona fide association sanctioned or officially recognized by one of the aforementioned groups do not constitute cruelty to animals.
