Summary of Original Version Create new sections of KRS Chapter 311 to establish and administer the licensure of genetic counselors under the State Board of Medical Licensure; define relevant terms; require a license to practice genetic counseling on and after January 1, 2018; prohibit holding oneself out as a genetic counselor without a license; exempt certain types of professionals from licensure as a genetic counselor; establish conditions for the board to issue a regular or temporary genetic counselor license; set requirements for license renewal or reinstatement and license renewal dates; allow waiver from continuing education requirements under listed circumstances; enable the board to promulgate administrative regulations relating to genetic counselors; establish the Kentucky Genetic Counselors Advisory Committee, whose members are selected by the board; designate committee procedures; authorize the committee to give the board its recommendations for administrative regulations and other matters; list reasons the board may take disciplinary action against a licensee; amend KRS 311.990 to add penalties for violating the genetic counselor licensing statutes; amend KRS 311.550 to exclude the practice of genetic counseling from the practice of medicine or osteopathy.
