Summary of Original Version | Create a new section of KRS Chapter 72 to require the coroner to deliver the remains of police officers, firefighters, and emergency medical services personnel, as defined in KRS 61.315, killed in the line of duty to the family or other responsible entities in a casket or other similar vessel covered in an American flag; specify that the county is responsible for any costs associated with obtaining the flag and the casket or similar vessel, but that the county has no obligation to purchase the flag or the casket for the actual burial, cremation, or other disposition of the remains. |

Summary | Retain original provisions of the bill but specify in subsection (1) that in addition to the specified responders, any coroner or deputy coroner killed in the line of duty shall be transported pursuant to the provisions of the bill, and provide that, rather than a casket or similar vessel, transported individuals are transported in a professional manner so as to obscure the outline of the decedent's remains, and provide that, upon the wishes of the family or other responsible party of the decedent, a flag shall cover the decedent; allow the coroner to make arrangements with a funeral home or other designated transport service to return the decedent for his or her final arrangements, but require that the transportation be done in the same manner as set out in subsection (1). |
